DIY Easy No Sew Costume
Last week Braden’s teacher sent a note home saying the Kindergarten class will be performing in a show and he needed to dress up as an animal of his choice, from 5 animals. He chose to be a dog. After the anxiety and shock of the thought, “I have to make a costume. I have to make a costume in under a week.”, wore off. Oh and did I mention, I can’t sew. I got searching Pinterest, FB, internet search engines, I couldn’t find a thing. I was getting frantic and of course it was racing through my mind for days.
Finally, while searching through the boys dress up/costume box, I came across an old dog foam visor/hat. It suddenly clicked! The hat was perfect! I knew exactly what I was going to do. The hat originally came from the grocery store in the dollar bin, however I have seen them at Dollar Tree and Michaels. I grabbed a white tshirt from hobby lobby that was 40% off at $1.50. Found some black cargo shorts at Target for $7.00. While at hobby lobby I found a large over sized looking pipe cleaner for $3.00. Safety pins and red ribbon completed the supplies.
{real party} Super Hero Academy
My son is a huge super hero fan and when we began planning his party, we just knew we had to do Super Heroes. However, I was not liking the idea of a specific character or commercial theme. So, after weeks, and I mean weeks, of planning and thinking, I finally came to the conclusion, Super Hero Academy. The kids will come to train to be super heroes!!! It was perfect!
Because the theme has not been over done, finding things proved to be a task. So, I made most of the items myself and did what I could to figure out the rest. Some of the highlights were the over sized shield for our front yard made from an old movie theater film platter. Hand made capes for the water bottles, a battle zone with evil villains (balloons) and a learn to fly lesson.
At the end all the kiddos were able to put their super hero training to good use when the evil villain Doc Nacho came to ruin the party.
Each guest were given capes, shirts, bags, swords, shields, and more to help them become a super hero.
Kimberly and Loren’s Sweet Treats created the sprinkle cake, cookies, and cupcakes.
I created the custom T-shirts, lanyards, Super hero ID’s, Welcome Sign, giant, shield, masks for balloons, buildings and backdrop for photos.

Beginning Chores
We are getting to that age where it’s time to start working for their own money. My oldest is 5 and keeps asking for toys and games for the iPad and stuff he just doesn’t need. So, we decided to let him do some chores to earn some extra money. After searching Pinterest and Etsy, I found this great page, Soapstar Mom, that has these fabulous Chore Cards that are perfect for our little man. They have pictures and words so he can easily identify what chore he is to do. Plus each card comes laminated and punched already!
I just needed a way to hang them or display them for him to easily see. So, I took a cabinet door I had on hand, painted it blue, his choice, and some cup hooks, along with the word Chore Chart I cut out with my vinyl cutter, and created my very own chore chart for my hardworking little guy.
Spring Break Day 4
Well, our Spring Break plans had to be put on hold for just a bit. Blake’s cough had been getting a little out of hand and wanted to have the doctor check it out. Turns out, he has bronchitis, again. Got hims some antibiotics and decided to treat them to a little lunch at Applebee’s. Braden thought it was Applebeans.
He had some applesauce with his lunch and said to the waitress he needed some beans and then he would have applebeans, like the restaurant. LOL!!!
After our lunch we just came home and rested and took it easy the rest of the day. We decided a picnic in the park for dinner would be fantastic! So, I made some sandwiches, packed some snacks, and grabbed some drinks and we headed to the park. It was a great relaxing evening.
Spring Break Day 2 and 3
Wow, are we already halfway through our Spring Break??? Say it isn’t so? Yesterday was a fantastic day! I can not believe what we all did!
First, we woke up bright and early at 7am, got dressed and headed out the door by 8am. We are lucky enough that we have a super awesome connection to the GM at the Angelika Film Center, an indie film (some mainstream) movie house. It’s where you can go to see majority of the films will most likely be nominated for awards and they are home to the Dallas International Film Festival and other festivals. That’s right. My hubby is the General Manager and managed to get us our own private theater, before they opened, to watch the boys favorite movie, The Lion King. We brought our own candy, but got pop corn and drinks there. The boys were so excited. They loved the movie, of course, and they were thrilled to sit in the theater and watch it.
Once the movie was over, we headed out for a short 6min drive to the Dallas Art Museum. Right now they are offering free general admission for everyone. Perfect! Something free, but cost $10.00 to park. Oh well. We walked in and about 5 min Blake decided to stand on the base of a very priceless statue and that was it for us. We turned around and headed out the front door. My heart nearly dropped and knew after all the candy, drinks, and popcorn, we needed to burn off some energy before returning.
We headed across the street to the brand new, Klyde Warren Park. It was built on top of a major highway and is surrounded by all the giant skyscrapers. Our version of Central Park.
We made a bee line straight for the kids area and let them run loose! Lots of hills, water structures, things to climb on, spin around, jump, roll, slide, and bounce around.
Lunch break. With it being a gorgeous 75 degrees out side, a picnic in the park was a must for us! My hubby headed over to one of the many gourmet food trucks that were set up along the side of the park. While waiting, I noticed some “odd” things going around. To my surprise, we were sitting in the middle of a staged TV show for a hidden camera. Luckily we weren’t on the show, but we got to see first hand all the action. It was pretty neat. They set the stage of a hot dog vendor that was rude, crude, obnoxious, talked on his phone, read his paper, and everything else you can imagine for bad customer service. I tried to talk my husband into going to get into line, but I think the producers knew that we knew what they were doing.
It was still pretty neat.
After a few hours at the park, we headed over to Pinkberry for some soft serve frozen yogurt. After munching down on that we then headed to the mall and let the boys pick out a toy from the Disney Store and picked up a few goodies for ourselves as well. Our final stop was to Central Market for some fresh fish and fresh veggies for dinner. Herb Crusted Salmon with baked asparagus and rice. It was delish!!!
Boys had a fantastic time and were sound asleep by 6:45pm!!!
Today was our third day and we took it quite easy. I had a few errands to run but daddy and the boys went out to breakfast and to the park to play. We took the afternoon for rest and played outside in the water. Yes, the water! We had the sprinklers on and it was in the 80s today. To end the night we went for ice cream. They are sleeping soundly now. I think tomorrow will be a full day of rest for them!!!
